I have spent the past several weeks working on updates for the book and have had a number of great conversations with directors of BS/MD programs. However, several conversations I had created a concern that I wanted to pass on to you.

More than one director mentioned the problem they have with parents who are too involved. They dont mind the occasion question from a student or parent but when they get multiple phone calls or emails in a short period of time it starts to work against the student.  Why?

Medical schools are very concerned about admitting students who really want to be doctors. When parents have too much involvement medical schools begin to wonder if it is the student who wants to be a doctor, or whether the parents are pushing the student.  This is particularly an issue with Asian students because of the perception that these students are very driven.

Many qualified students do not get admitted to BS/MD programs because of the intense competition. But dont put your child at a disadvantage by being too involved in the process.

Action 4 News has received several calls after an outburst from a San Benito teacher who allegedly threatened her students in class.

According to parents, it all happened in a 9th grade Spanish class at San Benito’s Veterans Memorial Academy on Wednesday afternoon.

The teacher allegedly began yelling in class and reportedly told students that she would be, “Putting them out of their misery.”

Action 4 News spoke to San Benito Consolidated Independent School District spokeswoman Celia Longoria about the incident.

Longoria only confirmed that there was an incident involving a teacher at the school, which required medical attention.

The incident is under review by campus administrators.

Longoria said the teacher did not pose a danger to herself or others.

Switzerland’s IMD earlier this week joined the European Business School/Women on Board initiative, which is committed to shattering the glass ceilings that have until now prevented senior women executives from finding their places in corporate boardrooms throughout Europe.

The initiative, launched December 5th, includes several other top European business schools, leading female board members and the EU Commission. According to IMD Professor Bettina Büchel, it fits in perfectly with IMD’s commitment to helping organizations achieve greater diversity at the leadership level.

“Through a number of efforts over the last 10 years, IMD has particularly focused on management development for women,” Büchel said in a statement, noting that IMD features a leadership program for women and has worked both to increase the number of female participants in its MBA program and to increase male executives’ awareness of gender-related issues.

EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding is also an ardent supporter of the new European Business School/Women on Board initiative. Business schools hold the key to helping to increase the number of female leaders – they are the ones who can make women ‘boardable,’” she said in a statement. She added that she is encouraged by the December 5th “Call to Action” issued as part of the new initiative, which she believes shows that the education sector is committed to bringing more women to the top.

Deciding on where to send your child during the day can be a tough decision. You want your child to be safe, have fun, and be provided with the best care possible. Follow these simple tips to help you choose the best child care for your baby.

When you are looking for child care for your baby, don’t even look at price. You want your child in a safe environment where they can easily be taken care of because that’s what matters. Make sure to check that each location can give your child what they need rather than just looking at price.

Start looking at child care centers before you are in desperate need. When you know you’re pregnant and you will need someone to watch over your child, start looking right away. Know what type of child care you want to put your baby in, whether it’s a child care center or at someone’s home.

Research licensing requirements in your area and make sure the center you eventually decide on meets these requirements. Check out the centers in your area and narrow it down to the ones that seem most qualified.

Visit a variety of child care centers and evaluate which one seems like the best pick. You will usually want to go with one that has a small adult to child ratio so that your baby will receive enough attention from the adult in charge. Smaller groups are better because the adult can more easily take care of three children than six at a time.

Once you have visited several child care centers in your area, you can decide which one fits your child’s needs best. You should go with the center that has fulfilled all licensing requirements, can give your child attention, and has a great program.
