Now he’ll be pulling double duty with the Vikings. May has been named girls soccer coach at the school.
“It should be a good challenge,” said May, who led North Kitsap’s boys team to a state tournament berth for the third consecutive season in the spring. “We should be pretty good this year.”
May takes over for former coach Dee Taylor, who guided the Vikings for three seasons. North Kitsap’s girls went 11-5 last season and qualified for the state tournament.
May, who is the coaching director for the North Kitsap Socer Club, said the school asked him to apply for girls coaching position. He said he’s willing to coach the Vikings “as long as they want me,” but for mentoring purposes, he would like the school to pursue a female coach to eventually take over the girls program.
At Port Townsend, Ryan Moss has been selected as the new girls soccer coach, pending school board approval.
Moss replaces Colin Foden, who coached the Redskins for four seasons. Last year, Foden was named Olympic League coach of the year after leading Port Townsend to a 10-7 record.
