Holy Trinity multi-purpose football player and athlete Marcus Maye gave the good word to Florida football coach Will Muschamp on Monday that he plans to sign with the Gators in February of 2012.
“I wanted to get it over with and felt comfortable,” Maye said while returning from Gainesville to Melbourne. “I would say Florida has always been in the picture. It was pretty much between Florida and Florida State. Florida has been at the top for a while.”
Maye expects to play safety for the Gators. At 6-foot-1, 197 pounds, he has an unusual combination of size and mobility for a high school defender.
Maye, however, has played multiple positions, from quarterback to running back, receiver, linebacker, kick returner and defensive back.
Maye has also been an All-Space Coast basketball player and a state qualifier in track & field.
He added this football legend last year with two 300-yard rushing games, including a five-touchdown game against St. Petersburg Catholic. He then suffered a ruptured calf muscle that was supposed to be season-ending, but he returned against large public school Heritage and rushed for 169 yards while catching passes worth 153 yards and scoring four times on the road.
